MATT SANDERS

Coach Matt Sanders grew up in Albany, OR where he developed a passion for basketball. Throughout his high school years, he played four years of varsity basketball and was even nominated as a McDonald's All-American. After high school, he continued on to play a year at Blue Mountain College and two years at Clackamas College. Matt's trajectory shifted when he decided to start a career in opening a cell phone store and building a family with his wife, Tobie. Tobie, who grew up as an Air Force kid, had her own athletic background, playing both volleyball and basketball while living in the United States and overseas.

In 2010, Matt and Tobie made the decision to move to Sherwood, OR, as they believed it would be an ideal place to raise their family. They are proud parents to four wonderful children named Tali, Micah, Zoe, and Tristan. Shortly after settling in Sherwood, Matt discovered his passion for coaching and began coaching youth sports.

In 2016, Matt had the incredible opportunity to join Sherwood High School's Boys Basketball program as a program assistant under the guidance of Coach Rahim Tufts. Working alongside Rahim and other experienced coaches, Matt gained invaluable insights into building a winning culture and running a successful program from top to bottom.

In 2018-2019, he expanded my coaching experience by joining the girls premier basketball club Northwest Select, led by Angie Sun. Under Angie's mentorship, Matt delved deeper into higher-level training and skill development, enhancing his coaching abilities.

Now, in the upcoming 2023/24 season, Matt is excited to take on the role of Varsity Assistant Coach for Sherwood High School's Girls Basketball Team, as well as, the Boys Varsity Program. Additionally, he and his wife have opened SandersCourt, a private basketball facility in Sherwood. Through SandersCourt, they aim to provide more opportunities for the community to come together, learn the game of basketball, and receive additional training.

As a coach, Matt firmly believes that culture is paramount. To him, it means celebrating the success of teammates and being there to lift them up when they face adversity. Through his coaching journey, he strives to instill these values in players, fostering a positive and supportive environment within the team.

Coach Madison Hill started her basketball career in Bowie, Texas. There she lead her team to four district champion titles; made it to the 2nd,3rd, and 4th round of playoffs throughout the years; and made 1stteam all-district twice. After high school, she went to University of Texas at Dallas on a full ride scholarship and played for the women’s team until graduation.

After earning her MA in Political Science and
receiving Magna Cum Laude honors, she moved up to Oregon. She has lived here for a year and has coached all age groups and levels. When she’s not coaching, she’s enjoying her time hiking, baking, traveling, and cuddling with her two cats. The Sherwood High School Girls Basketball community has been of the most positive programs she has been a part of filled with the most passionate coaches and players.

TIM EHLERS

As player from way back in Nebraska, Coach Tim Ehlers started playing in 4th grade and continued on through high school. Tim opted not to play in college after his high school team was very successful and won a State Championship during his senior year. Although offered opportunities, he decided at that time it was not the best for him. So, he helped at his high school during their summer programs and played at University of Nebraska in their competitive Intramural leagues. Tim has been involved in Oregon girls basketball since the fall of 2015.

assistant and as a JV head coach. Tim was also the head coach for one year at Dallas High School, and most recently, three years at Sunset High School. He also coached 3 seasons with the Mid-Valley Monarchs club program out of Salem.

Looking to step away from a head coaching position, Tim applied to Sherwood. Coach Anderson and he met last year as their teams played their first game of the season against one another (where Sherwood won). He knew that Sherwood has strong community support and players that want to succeed in the sport we love and hecould not pass up the opportunity to join the program.

Tim and his wife, Lisa live in the Beaverton area, and have one daughter who graduated from Lewis & Clark College in May 2023. She is the volleyball head coach at Riverside High School, in West Linn.
